How to Measure Yourself for Custom Shalwar Kameez (WhatsApp Order Guide)

Ordering a custom-made shalwar kameez over WhatsApp is simple, but it depends on one thing: getting your measurements right. Send accurate numbers and your suit will fit the way a tailored garment should. Guess, and you'll be stuck with alterations or a fit that never quite feels right.

This guide walks you through exactly what to measure, how to measure it, and how to send it to us so we can start stitching with confidence.

What You'll Need

  • A soft measuring tape (the flexible cloth kind tailors use — not a metal tape measure)
  • A well-fitted shirt or kameez you already own and like the fit of (optional, but helpful for comparison)
  • Someone to help you measure, if possible — it's hard to get an accurate chest or shoulder measurement on yourself

The Measurements We Need

1. Length (Kameez)

Measure from the base of your neck (where the collar sits) straight down to where you want the kameez to end — typically mid-shin or per your preference. Stand straight, arms relaxed at your sides.

2. Chest

Wrap the tape around the fullest part of your chest, under your arms and across your shoulder blades. Keep the tape snug but not tight — you should be able to slide two fingers underneath it.

3. Shoulder

Measure from the edge of one shoulder (where it meets the arm) straight across to the edge of the other shoulder, across your back.

4. Sleeve Length

Starting from the shoulder edge, measure down to your wrist bone with your arm slightly bent. If you prefer a specific sleeve style (full-length or folded), mention this separately.

5. Neck

Wrap the tape around the base of your neck, where a collar would naturally sit. Leave a little slack — one finger's width — for comfort.

6. Waist (Shalwar)

Measure around your natural waistline, where you'd wear the shalwar's drawstring. Don't pull the tape tight; measure where it sits comfortably.

7. Shalwar Length

Measure from your waist down to your ankle, or to wherever you prefer the shalwar to end.

A Simpler Option: Use a Kameez You Already Own

If you have a shalwar kameez that already fits you well, you can skip manual body measurements. Lay it flat on a table and measure directly:

  • Length: collar to hem
  • Chest: side to side, then double it
  • Shoulder: seam to seam across the back
  • Sleeve: shoulder seam to cuff end

This method is often more accurate than measuring your body directly, since it accounts for how you actually like your clothes to fit.

How to Send Your Measurements

  2. Send your seven measurements (length, chest, shoulder, sleeve, neck, waist, shalwar length) in inches or centimeters — just tell us which unit you're using
  3. We'll confirm everything back to you before cutting any fabric, so there's a chance to double-check
  4. Pay the Rs. 3,000 advance to start stitching
  5. Your suit is ready in 5–7 days

Common Measuring Mistakes to Avoid

  • Pulling the tape too tight: this results in a kameez that feels tight and restrictive. Keep it snug, not compressed.
  • Measuring over bulky clothing: measure over a thin shirt or undershirt for accuracy.
  • Slouching while measuring: stand naturally upright, shoulders relaxed, not pulled back.
  • Guessing instead of measuring: even if you know your "usual size" in ready-to-wear, custom measurements are more precise and worth the extra two minutes.
